Student Intern/On-Job Trainee

PT Daya Radar Utama

During my internship at PT Daya Radar Utama, a shipbuilding company in Jakarta, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various departments including production, engineering, planning and project control (PPC), and quality control (QC). I was able to deepen my understanding of manufacturing processes and observe the workings of machinery such as CNC and lathe machines used in ship construction.

In production and engineering, I worked closely with senior engineers on ship construction projects was able to provide valuable insights and suggestions. I also visited shipyards to observe the work being done and identify areas for improvement. Then in PPC, I learned about the management of important documents such as the master schedule, S-curve, and inventory. I also helped monitor the company's inventory to ensure that stock levels and the quality of materials were maintained.

In QC, I participated in internal inspections of shipbuilding projects to evaluate the quality control processes and procedures in place, including welding checks, hydro tests, scantling checks, vacuum tests, and material identification. At the end of my internship, I was tasked with compiling a report summarizing my observations and experiences. Overall, my internship was a valuable learning experience that gave me a better understanding of the shipbuilding industry and the various departments involved in it.

Ship Production Lab/Workshop Assistant

As the senior student, I am believed to take the project of supervising the production of a fishing boat model by junior Naval Architecture Engineering students aimed to provide hands-on experience in the practical aspects of shipbuilding. The goal was to give the junior students a comprehensive understanding of the production process and to guide them in shipbuilding that closely adheres to the design and requirements. My main role was supervising the project and in addition to approval ship designing, purchasing the materials, and quality assurance of the outcome and reports. (Read more)
